Hey Geoff, I hope your healing well! I gotta say getting back on the bike and riding like you did after pole-vaulting Arizona was incredible. You are one tough dude! Thanks for welcoming me to the group. Making friends with you, John, and Lorenzo was the best part of the trip! Ride on my friend!

Geoff McIntosh, Liverators, via voice mail, 10:20 pm PST/1:20 am EST
"We’re basically - the four of us, Dennis, John, myself and Lorenzo - are pretty much done, we’re going to meet the other four boys at mile 15 but we went through Virginia and Maryland today. We climbed a lot of the big hills in West Virginia and it was tough but it was really fun. We’re almost done!"

Spoke to Geoff McIntosh about 8:45 am PST/11:45 am EST this morning.
I asked him how he was feeling. “Been better,” said the big Liverator. “I got a little tummy ache yesterday, I almost threw up a couple times but I held it down. Nice cleansing storm came through, the temp went down 20 degrees, but then after it was right back up to 100. We’re still moving, the other foursome we have, they’re really rocking it; they’re doing really good.” He sounds wiped and he knows it, but won’t give in. “I’m holding it together.”
"Please say hi to Colby and Wesley."
Hey guys, your dad is doing a fantastic job out there.

Geoff McIintosh (Liverators) 10:56 am PST – “We made it through the mountains last night. We did the peaks in Colorado, we did the highest peak in New Mexico – Eagles Nest – that was tough – but we all did great on it – we climbed and did awesome - it was really fun. We’re heading out to Kansas today. We’ll be on the plains; hopefully we can get our average speed up a bunch of miles an hour. Everyone’s surviving and doing well.”

Got this message from Geoff at about 12:40 PM PST today - guess he wasn't really hurt after all!
“Just gearing up for our next day of riding. Yesterday was very, very hard day. We did a fair amount of climbing. Went up to Sedona, which was absolutely gorgeous. I did a nice climb there. Today we have actually have the Rockies. We’ll go to the highest elevation which is almost 11,000 feet which should be crazy. I’m a little nervous about the climbing, but that’s what they usually stick me to. I’ve got a nice gear ratio for that, an 11/28 on the back of my cassette - it’s a really great climbing gear I can just spin it out.”

Geoff
Just getting a chance to check in - first, happy Father's Day. Second, what the heck happened - I read that you took a spill. Hope that you're doing OK and were able to get "back on the saddle" without too much trouble. Keep on peddling.
Doug

Hi Geoff,
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. From what my brother John has told me about you, I knew you would be back on that bike as soon as you could! Just remember to take care of yourself...that is what is most important. Thanks for doing this. Happy Father's Day.

Are you ok? Well Geoff, daddy should help you. It is ok if you win or lose just have a good time. Hopefully you will be back in the race soon. Sometimes I fall off my bike, like when I slipped on the rocks and hurt my arm. But I am better now. Love Kellen
I once was on lots of pebbles and I slipped and fell on my bike. I got a cut on my knee and it started to bleed and I had to sit on the pebbles because I couldn't move. I did not want the blood to go anywhere. What I did was yell for help and wait for my dad to come. I just had to leave it alone and I was good as new by the end. So I hopped back onto my bike and by the end I was good as new. You should try this too. Hopefully you will be like that and not have to wait until the end of the race. get a lot of rest and be better soon to get back in the race in a snap. Love Jack
Geoff I hope these messages from the boys helps. It is alway fun to see life through the eyes of five and six year old boys. Happy fathers day. Ride on!!! Love Karin

From Liverators rider Geoff Martin about 9:30 AM PST:
“I took a spill, I got six stitches in my arm, I got road rash on my hip and leg, but I’m going to attempt to ride this afternoon. I feel OK, actually surprisingly better than I thought. But my two arms are wrapped up and it’s really hot and it feels wet underneath there.” Yuck.
Here’s what Geoff says about the accident, which happened when he and Dennis Spencer were transitioning:
“What happened was, we were in the desert, it was flat and we had a tailwind that was crazy. Dennis was riding before me and he was going so fast - 35 mph on the flat. I was having trouble clicking in [his shoes to his pedals] – I pushed down really hard and my foot just went through. Dennis looked back and said I was like a pole vaulter – catapulting off the bike.”
Spencer kept riding and ended up doing a 14 mile pull.
McIntosh feels bad about his bike. “My front wheel is messed up [he’s got a replacement]. I hurt it a little last night, makes me sad.” He also had to take off his aero bars, because of the position of his injuries he can’t rest on them.
Still, he’s looking forward to getting back on. “I was climbing well yesterday, it was fun. I can’t wait to hit the Rockies.”
“Happy father’s day to my dad and all father’s out there.”

Geoff, I'm happy to hear you in better spirits today after the crash.
You are a super bad ass and if anyone can recover and keep rolling, it's you! Happy Father's Day! See you soon.

********** Accident for the Liverators **********
Just got this update from Jason Weckworth: "Geoff McIntosh crashed, they were in a transition, he was trying to get out of his clips, he went over the handlebars. Right now he’s in the ER with Neville and Maggie [Liverator crew members]. He’s got cuts [on both arms and one leg] but no broken bones, he’s going to take a few stitches. Unfortunate for the Liverators." But Jason is confident that Geoff will be back on the road soon. He was so motivated to do the Race, says the TDL team captain.
Hang in there Geoff, we're with you!

"My uncle Jon is waiting for a liver transplant," says TDL Liverator rider Geoff McIntosh. "I'm riding for him."
McIntosh, a sales manager for Roche Pharmaceuticals who is a major sponsor of TDL this year, has a strong athletic background from both college where he participated in cross country, track and crew; and beyond as an an avid cyclist. McIntosh is an expert mountain biker, a Cat 5 road race, and a Cat 4 in cyclo-cross.
"Cycling should be fun," he says. "I did a 50 mile mountain bike race in September. I was good for about 38 miles, and the last 12 were hell!"
Despite his extensive cycling experience, McIntosh knows he's up against a different beast with RAAM. "I'm ... anxious to get out and start punishing myself," he jokes. McIntosh will ride first for the Liverators. Go Geoff!
