Thanks everyone for your encouragement and following along. We finished last night (total race time 6 days 4 hours and 40-somethinmg minutes). Steve and I took a lot of pictures which we'll share when we get back. He was a trooper - number 1 crew - just learned how much sleep he can do without. This race is impossible without a scarificing and dedicated crew. The last shift was great - we were like horses smelling the barn and we cooked. Our average speed across the country was 20.3 miles an hour! The two 8 person teams that finished ahead of us have semi-pro racers (Cat racers for those of you that know what that means) so we were the first pace amateurs. This was an amazing journey and I an Soooo ready to do it again - next time with 4. It's amazing how much of the middle of the country is one small town after another with corn fields in between - but it's just beautiful! Thanks to everyone who supported me through donations and moral support couldn't have done it without you. Back in the office onMonday.

Give Hope rider Elliot Block via voice mail, 8:02 am PST/11:02 am EST

“Hey it’s Friday already! We’re in Maryland, a couple of 100 miles form the end of the race. Just went through the Appalachians: very green and wet and we heard banjos playing. We are almost there the finish line is in sight and we are having a great time.”

Update from Elliot at 7:52 am PST today:
"Yesterday through Kansas was a very long, hot day. Temperatures in the hundreds, crosswinds; very, very difficult. In some ways harder than riding through the Rockies, and not a whole heck of a lot to look at. But we’re going to cross the Mississippi River today when we take over, and we’re just going to keep on moving on."

I hope you were able to get through some of the mountains during the day. If not, I bet riding those elevations at night was really surreal!

Elliot Block called in at about 7:30 AM PST from the plains of Kansas:

“Basically we had a great day of riding yesterday through the Rockies, we went through the highest elevation on RAAM, 10,250 feet, feeling good, and passed the 1/3 point. We’re going tot pass the 1/2 point today. We’re going to do 286 miles today and we’ll still be in Kansas when we’re done. I haven’t been able to get online so I haven’t been able to view the messages you’ve sent me.

This is great, crazy but great.

We missed your send off but were close by in Escondido. It wasn't nearly as hot as it could have been so perhaps it helped your team stayed hydrated. We're enjoying the experience vicariously through you. You guys rock!

This was a fun day and we are insane - riding through the desert in the middle of the night is surreal, but a lot cooler than during the day. We had some great tailwinds and pushed some really fast times. Tomorrow we climb!

Thanks for the good wishes. Today's the big day - we're all excited and anxious to go - should be incredible. Although it's 90's in the desert and thunderstorms across the middle of the country, hoepfully, it'll be gone before we get there. DAve's journal has a couple of pictures that he uploaded - getting inspected and having a team picture taken. Here's a look at what we're in for.

So we made it safe and sound down to Oceanside yesterday. Lots of preparation to do today - bikes, supplies, inspections, official pictures, and mandatory meetings. Plenty of "hurry up and wait" but that's just part of the experience. I think we're all just anxious to hit the road and get started tomorrow.
