Dear friends and family: As you know, I am committed to the promotion of organ and tissue donation. My liver transplant with Bishop William Weigand in 2005 remains one of the most wonderful and powerful experiences of my life; and continues to allow me to speak to many people about the medical, human compassion and spiritual elements of the Gift of Life. It was through your generous support and continued prayer that the Bishop and I recovered to full health. Today, the Bishop is enjoying his return to pastoral work as he continues to ministers to the faithful and brings the Lord into so many peoples’ lives.
I have continued to be actively involved as a Board member of the Golden State Donor Services organization here in Sacramento. It was through that work that I met the Ellison Family and have come to know them as friends. Jared and Tiffany Ellison’s son, Connor (12 years old), has liver disease and recently had surgery at the Stanford Children’s’ Hospital to provide some relief to his illness. He and I have become pretty good pals (we share the same “Mercedes” abdominal scar from surgery) and we both believe that much more needs to be done to educate others on the benefits of organ and tissue donation.
Recently, the Ellisons asked me to “CREW” for Connor as he Races Across America. Connor will be the youngest racer to ever attempt such a feat. Imagine riding a bicycle from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland!! We are using his race to help raise money to support the wonderful efforts of Team Donate Life.
I am asking for your prayerful and financial support to help me in raising $10,000 toward this effort. It is quite easy! Please follow the DONATE NOW link on this page and thank you for your generous help. Please click on this link if you want to view Connor’s page http://www.teamdonatelife.com/ .
Many blessings, Dan
